Nicholas Andrew Lewis, 33, was fatally shot on October 1, 2016, while walking home from a convenience store on South Acoma Street in Englewood, Colorado. First responders found him with several gunshot wounds; he was taken to a hospital and died of a gunshot wound to the chest. The Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office ruled his death a homicide. Lewis was the chef at Blackbird Public House and his death deeply affected his family and the Denver-area restaurant community.

Englewood Police investigators linked the killing to a crime spree by two teenagers who were already in custody on unrelated charges. The suspects were identified as Raheem Benson and Louis Lara-Marcias. Evidence included social media posts by Benson that showed the weapon and mask used in the attack and that reportedly boasted about the killing. Both were charged as adults with first-degree murder and attempted aggravated robbery. Louis Lara-Marcias pleaded guilty to second-degree murder; Raheem Benson was convicted of first-degree felony murder, second-degree murder, and attempted aggravated robbery and received a life sentence with parole eligibility.

Was anyone in the community aware of either suspect’s activities before October 1, 2016, or does someone have further information about the events that night?
