Gerald Donovan, 75, was shot and killed outside a home on Thomas Court in Loveland, Colorado, on June 6, 2015. Neighbors say the shooting followed a long-simmering land dispute with the next-door resident; Donovan was hit in the chest with an AK-47 rifle. Deputies from the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office arrived to a dangerous scene and found Donovan still alive, but his injuries proved fatal despite efforts to help.

The man identified as responsible was Donovan’s 36-year-old neighbor, Eric David Gray. Gray was arrested at the scene and charged with first-degree murder. His defense raised mental illness and paranoia as contributing factors; a judge later found Gray competent to stand trial. Prosecutors argued Gray was capable of forming the intent to kill. In November 2018 a jury convicted Gray of first-degree murder and he was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Did anyone in the neighborhood know about the land dispute or notice any tensions between the men before June 6, 2015?
