William Roger Connole Jr. was 65 and a longtime Loveland resident who worked shifts at Home Depot, enjoyed late-night neighborhood walks, and had recently recovered from cancer. On the evening of June 3, 2015, while standing at the corner of St. Louis Avenue and East 1st Street shortly before 11 p.m., he was shot. Emergency responders found him on the sidewalk with gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses said a vehicle had slowed near him, but no one reported seeing the actual shooting.
Investigators treated the killing as part of a string of apparently random shootings in Northern Colorado and assembled a task force that reviewed thousands of leads, including links to a non-fatal I-25 shooting and the killing of a bicyclist in Windsor. A major development came in 2018 when Christopher David Parker was arrested in connection with Connole’s death and another shooting that same night. For years the case had unsettled the community; anyone with information about Connole, his walks that night, or the vehicle witnesses described is asked to come forward.
