Maria Olivas, 38, was shot and killed in Wellington, Colorado, on February 6, 2014. Born in Fort Collins on May 7, 1975, she graduated from Poudre High School in 1993 and lived in the Fort Collins area before settling in Wellington, where she was raising three children.

Maria worked at Cantina Liquors and was remembered for a warm personality and infectious laugh. She enjoyed camping, watching movies, and Sunday family meals, and her family described her as a lover and rescuer of animals. She was survived by four children, an ex-husband, her parents, siblings, and many friends and extended family. Her family asked that donations be made to the Larimer County Humane Society in her honor.
