Jeanette Margene Davis Judge was 24 when she and her new husband, James Judge, were honeymooning near Pagosa Springs, Colorado, in August 1978. Four days into the marriage, on August 9, the couple were abducted by a fugitive who had escaped an Arizona prison ten days earlier. The fugitive was Randy Greenawalt, a convicted murderer, who had escaped with Gary Tison and Tison’s three sons.

The group, known as the Tison gang, had already committed multiple violent crimes, including the murder of a family of four in Arizona, before reaching Colorado. Jeanette and James Judge were killed after their abduction. The gang’s spree ended on August 11, 1978, in Arizona when authorities located the Judges’ stolen van; one of Tison’s sons died in the confrontation, Gary Tison later fled into the desert and died from exposure, and Greenawalt was identified as one of those responsible.

Are there any details from Pagosa Springs or surrounding communities in August 1978 that could shed more light on the Judges’ final movements or who may have seen them that week?
