Hezekiah H. Harper-Bey, 20, was shot in the face and killed on October 4, 2014, in the West Garfield Park neighborhood of Chicago. He was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital. His death was one of three homicides that weekend, which saw a total of 31 people shot across the city during a period of unusually intense violence despite an early snow flurry.
Chicago recorded 339 homicides through 2014, with more than 1,738 people shot by early October, illustrating the wider context of gun violence that weekend and that year. The circumstances of Harper-Bey’s death reflect the persistent challenge the city faced in reducing gun-related crime and protecting neighborhoods.
If anyone knew Hezekiah or has information about the October 4 shooting in West Garfield Park, please come forward with what you can share.
