Teonte Ward was 21 when he was shot on the afternoon of October 5, 2021, on the 1800 block of Helen Avenue in North Las Vegas, near West Carey Avenue and North Martin Luther King Boulevard. Officers responding to reports of gunfire found Ward and a woman who had both been shot. Both were taken to University Medical Center; the woman’s injuries were non-life-threatening, but Ward died at the hospital. The Clark County coroner ruled his death a homicide from a gunshot wound to the chest.

North Las Vegas police indicated they did not believe the shooting was random and suggested Ward may have been targeted. In the days and weeks after the killing, investigators released no descriptions of suspects, and no arrests have been announced. The motive and identity of whoever shot Ward remain unresolved.
