On the evening of September 6, 2021, 43-year-old Jorge Godoy-Lua was shot and killed while walking near Cheyenne Avenue and Civic Center Drive in North Las Vegas. The Clark County coroner ruled his death a homicide from gunshot wounds to the back. Godoy-Lua had immigrated from Mexico and worked as a roofer; family and neighbors remembered him as optimistic, kind, and devoted to his teenage children.

His killing was one of three shootings in the same area within about two hours. Surveillance footage and witness accounts showed a man walking the streets and shooting multiple victims. Police arrested 35-year-old Tristan Tidwell the next day; he later confessed and said he believed the victims were homeless and needed to be terminated. Friends and family said at least two victims, including Godoy-Lua, were not homeless.

Tidwell pleaded guilty but mentally ill to three counts of murder with a deadly weapon and received three consecutive life sentences without parole. Does anyone in the North Las Vegas area have information about Jorge Godoy-Lua’s life, his usual walking routes, or that night?
