On the evening of February 14, 2021, 25-year-old Vintell Lamontta Johnson was shot multiple times in the back in the parking lot of an apartment complex on El Rancho Drive in Sparks, Nevada, after an argument involving his girlfriend and her sister. Officers who responded to 7:32 p.m. gunfire found Johnson with multiple gunshot wounds; he was transported to Renown Medical Center and later died of his injuries. The case was investigated as a homicide.

Investigators identified Katrina Carvalho, the girlfriend’s sister, as the primary suspect. Police say Carvalho produced a firearm during the argument and shot Johnson three times before fleeing the state; law enforcement believed she had gone to California and a reward was offered for information. Carvalho was arrested in Los Angeles County in December 2021, returned to Washoe County, and a jury later found her guilty of first-degree murder with a firearm enhancement. She was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole after serving at least 20 years.

If anyone knew Vintell Johnson, was present that evening, or has information about the events in the El Rancho Drive parking lot, please come forward.
