On the morning of January 15, 2021, 18-year-old Se’Maj Holmes was found in a car that had crashed into a home near Washburn Road and Goldfield Street in North Las Vegas. Holmes and a woman in the vehicle had both been shot; both were taken to University Medical Center. The woman was expected to survive, but Holmes died of a gunshot wound to the head the following day. The Clark County coroner’s office ruled his death a homicide.
Investigators with the North Las Vegas Police Department said they did not believe the shooting was random. On February 16, 2021, police announced the arrest of 20-year-old Gemonte Kirkland on charges that included murder, attempted murder, conspiracy, and battery in connection with the incident. Police did not disclose a motive or the investigative steps that led to the arrest.
If anyone in the Washburn Road and Goldfield Street area that morning saw the vehicle or noticed anything out of the ordinary, please share what you know.
