On the late afternoon of January 28, 2016, an argument in a North Las Vegas apartment complex in the 3300 block of Civic Center Drive, near Cheyenne Avenue, turned physical and ended with gunfire. Eighteen-year-old Kishawn Washington, a Black male, was struck in the chest around 4:30 p.m. and taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.
Police described the shooting as not random, indicating a prior connection between Washington and his assailant. Investigators later identified 35-year-old Tyrus Kemp as the suspect. On February 26, 2016, Kemp was located in the Detroit area and taken into custody on a murder with a deadly weapon warrant; he was to be extradited to North Las Vegas to face charges stemming from Washington’s death.
If anyone knew Kishawn, witnessed the January 28 confrontation, or has information about the events that led to this shooting, please come forward.
