On July 22, 2020, at about 1:30 p.m. on U.S. 160 in Wellington, Kansas, 34-year-old Travis A. Schneider was shot and killed while driving his Ford Ranger pickup westbound. A female passenger was with him. A dark red Pontiac Bonneville pulled up alongside; its occupants were driver Noah Moody and passenger Walter Edward Taylor III. An argument ensued and, after Taylor invited Schneider to pull over and fight, Taylor reportedly shouted that he was a member of the Bloods, pulled a handgun and fired one shot that struck Schneider in the upper chest. Schneider managed to pull his truck to the side of the road but died at the scene; his passenger was not physically injured.
After the shooting, Moody did not stop but drove Taylor home at Taylor’s request, then parked the Bonneville at a relative’s house. Taylor later called 911 and surrendered; he was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder. Taylor, who was 21 at the time, later pleaded guilty to second-degree murder as part of a plea agreement that dismissed other charges including criminal threat and criminal discharge of a firearm. Moody, then 23, was charged with three felonies, among them aiding a felony by obstructing apprehension and aiding and abetting in the criminal discharge of a firearm.
Are there witnesses or anyone who knew Travis who can add details about what led up to the confrontation?
