Tavache Kizer, known in the local music scene as Trife, was fatally shot on October 8, 2013, while his car was being repaired in South Dorchester. He was 38 and described as a rapper who rapped about anti-violence themes and was working on a music video titled Respect the Youth, a project meant to highlight Chicago’s violence epidemic and honor victims such as Hadiya Pendleton and Trayvon Martin. Kizer’s death is reported as not believed to be a targeted killing but rather a tragic case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

He was a father and a husband, and his killing occurred amid a string of shootings affecting aspiring Chicago artists, including the recent death of Leonard L’A Capone Anderson. No arrests have been announced in this case.

Does anyone have information about that day or about Kizer’s work in the community?
