Ashley Kay Harlan was 23 and about 20 weeks pregnant when she was found dead in Olathe, Kansas, on January 30, 2018 — the same day she was scheduled to learn the gender of her unborn child. The death was ruled a homicide by shooting. At the time she had recently moved to an Olathe townhouse to be closer to the baby’s father, 26-year-old Devonte Wash, and was living with her grandfather.
Ashley’s background included time in foster care after her mother’s death. Friends described her as caring and determined to change her life; she had recovered from drug addiction, worked with a Christian-based ministry helping survivors of sex trafficking, and was preparing to start a job mentoring foster children. Wash called 911 on the afternoon of January 30 and reported finding Ashley deceased inside the residence. Investigators later reported that Wash had purchased a handgun about a month before the killing and that shell casings at the scene matched casings from a place where he had been seen firing the weapon.
Did anyone in Olathe know Ashley, her plans, or her movements in January 2018 and have information that could help clarify what happened?
