Shavar A. Walker, 33, was fatally shot outside an apartment complex in Leavenworth, Kansas, on the morning of December 25, 2017. Prosecutors say the killing occurred during a cocaine transaction; that theory led to the arrest of 32-year-old Ramaun Johnson on a felony murder charge. Prosecutors did not specifically allege Johnson was the shooter.
Court action has been delayed. A trial set for January 2020 was postponed after new evidence surfaced, including the identification of a possible co-defendant who has not been publicly named or charged. An account from someone close to Walker’s family describes Walker and his wife returning from a casino on Christmas Eve, picking up a longtime friend, and then being confronted by two men who entered the back of their vehicle; an argument reportedly escalated to the shooting, suggesting a possible planned robbery. The investigation is ongoing and the family has criticized the pace and publicity of the case.
If anyone knew Shavar, was in Leavenworth that Christmas, or has information about who else might have been involved, please share what is known.
