Anthony L. Shuster, 28, was killed in an apartment at The Lodge Apartments in the 7500 block of West 106th Street in Overland Park, Kansas, on the late afternoon of February 2, 2017. Police were called about 4:15 p.m. after reports of an armed disturbance. Officers found Shuster deceased inside the apartment; another woman at the scene suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Shuster’s three-month-old daughter was present but unharmed. Family members described him as a loving father to three children and a cornerstone of their family.
The following day a 47-year-old man, Michael Collins Smith of Prairie Village, turned himself in and was charged by Johnson County prosecutors with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and aggravated endangering a child; bond was set at $1 million. The motive was not immediately clear to the family.
