Allie Saum was 17 when she was shot and killed in Salina, Kansas, on the evening of May 6, 2015. She was a junior at Salina South High School and a passenger in a pickup truck driven by her boyfriend when the vehicle was mistaken for that of someone a group intended to target. As the truck passed the 500 block of Russell Street, Macio Palacio Jr. fired multiple shots; one struck Saum in the head. She was taken to a local hospital and later died of her injuries.
Investigators tied the attack to a revenge plot following an earlier altercation involving Stephen Gentry. Police arrested six people in connection with the shooting. Macio Palacio Jr. was convicted of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and other counts and received a hard 50 life sentence with no parole for 50 years. Stephen Gentry was found guilty of first-degree murder and given life with parole eligibility after 25 years. Other participants faced a range of charges: Andrew Woodring, 17 at the time, pleaded no contest to felony murder and received life with parole eligibility after 25 years; Jerome Forbes and Daniel Sims faced lesser charges including involuntary manslaughter, and Sims testified against co-defendants under a plea agreement. Azucena Garcia-Ferniza was charged with obstruction for allegedly trying to hide the murder weapon.
Did anyone in Salina know Allie or the other young people involved and have details that could add to the timeline of that night?
