Muhammad Alameen, 75, was a longtime barber in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood whose shop sat on the 5600 block of South Racine Avenue. In mid-August 2013, on or about August 16, he was found beaten to death in the apartment above his barbershop, a space he used for living and was reportedly fixing up. Community accounts described him as a fixture who spent roughly 55 years cutting hair in the neighborhood and who often gave free back-to-school haircuts and helped patrons prepare for job interviews.

Police called the case an active investigation and family members suspected the killer likely knew Alameen, but contemporary coverage did not announce any arrests or identify a suspect. The location of the death matches the barber shop address where his business was licensed.
