On June 24, 2014, police in Wichita, Kansas, answered a late-night distress call to a home where 45-year-old Tuyet Huynh was found dead of multiple gunshot wounds. Her 20-year-old daughter, Trinh Pham, and 21-year-old son-in-law, Sean Pham, were also fatally shot. A 5-month-old infant, the Phams’ son, was found unharmed in the house.
Investigators arrested 41-year-old Vinh Van Nguyen at the scene; he was located in the master bedroom near Tuyet’s body and a weapon was recovered. Prosecutors charged Nguyen with capital murder and set bond at $2 million. Police said the relationship between Tuyet and Nguyen had been troubled and that she had been trying to get him to move out; there were no prior domestic violence reports at the residence.
Defense questions about Nguyen’s mental competency to stand trial later emerged, producing lengthy delays in the case. If anyone knew Tuyet, Trinh, or Sean, or has information about what happened that night, please share what is known.
