Tiffany Davenport-Ray, 42, was shot dead on May 25, 2014, in Topeka, Kansas, just hours after marrying Melvin Ray. The couple was driving away from their wedding reception when an SUV overtook their car and opened fire. Tiffany, still in her wedding dress, was struck in the head and died at the scene; Melvin Ray, who was driving, was not hit and returned fire with a pistol he took from the glove compartment.

Investigators arrested and convicted three men in connection with the shooting. Thomas Earl Brown Jr., 39 at the time, was convicted of premeditated first-degree murder and the attempted murder of Melvin Ray and received life with parole eligibility after 25 years plus additional consecutive terms totaling 54 years and five months. Awnterio Dwan Lowery, the SUV driver, was also convicted of premeditated first-degree murder and sentenced to life. Jermel Ramond Robbins Sr., 26, who had been in the SUV, was shot to death three weeks after the wedding; his death was linked to Tiffany’s murder.

The attack appeared to have no clear motive, a fact underscored by District Judge David Debenham’s remarks about the brutality of taking a bride’s life hours after her marriage. Does anyone have information about Tiffany or the events that night that could shed light on why this happened?
