Patrick Daniel Roberts, 39, was shot and killed in his Lawrence, Kansas, apartment during a home invasion on March 8, 2014. The attack occurred about 3:10 a.m. in the 2400 block of Cedarwood Avenue, where Roberts lived with several family members. Two men forced their way into the residence and demanded an unknown object from Roberts; when he said he did not know what they meant, a single shot struck him in the abdomen from a distance of two to three feet. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

According to family members at the scene, Roberts’ brother struggled with one of the intruders and managed to pry the gun away before the men fled. The Lawrence Police Department arrested a suspect later the same morning and charged him with first-degree murder; a second man was also apprehended. Prosecutors allege the intruders intended to steal money or marijuana, and investigators recovered a significant amount of marijuana and other physical evidence at the apartment, including a shoe left at the scene.

Did anyone in Lawrence recognize either of the suspects or notice suspicious activity around Cedarwood Avenue that night?
