Jerimiah Milsap, 24, was shot and killed during a family Fourth of July weekend gathering in the Near West Side neighborhood of Chicago on July 6, 2013. The attack took place about 3 a.m. when a group of men approached the gathering and opened fire; Milsap was struck in the abdomen and later pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital. His brother-in-law, Robert Williams, was also wounded in the arm and torso, and Milsap’s sister reportedly pleaded for their lives as the shooting unfolded.

Neighbors linked the attack to local gang tensions in a neighborhood described as a hotspot for rivalry, and expressed distrust in authorities despite a nearby police station. Milsap was a U.S. Navy veteran who served from 2008 to 2012 and earned awards including a marksmanship ribbon. He left a wife, Tara, and four young children; friends recall that one daughter took her first steps just hours after his death. Former shipmates held a fundraiser to support the family.

Does anyone have information about that July 6 shooting or recall details from the neighborhood that night?
