Margaret Helen Becker, 81, was last seen leaving her home in Sebring, Florida on January 17, 2020, driving a blue 2018 Chevrolet Colorado. Her movements that afternoon were documented by store surveillance: she stopped at a CVS in south Sebring around 4:30 p.m., where a witness later told the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office she appeared confused, and she was recorded at a Publix in the same plaza between about 6:05 and 6:17 p.m., buying bananas and looking unsteady on her feet. She wore a dark blue plaid long-sleeved shirt, rolled blue jean shorts, and possibly light pink tennis shoes.
On January 31 detectives received a tip that a truck matching her vehicle entered the Avon Park Bombing Range the night she disappeared; a gate attendant recalled seeing a lone female occupant who did not stop to check in. Search teams focused on a boat ramp into the Kissimmee River. On February 1 dive teams recovered Becker’s pickup submerged in 15 to 30 feet of water about 30 yards from the ramp; the truck was in drive with three windows down, but Becker was not in the vehicle. Only a few personal items were found downstream.
Did anyone in Sebring or who used that stretch of the Kissimmee River notice anything unusual that night or in the days afterward?
