On Monday afternoon, November 7, 2016, 69-year-old Donald Joseph Hortsch was shopping at a Dollar Tree in Burnsville, Minnesota, when gunfire erupted inside the store. The shooting began after Grant David Hendrickson’s girlfriend argued with a store employee and learned Hendrickson was a registered sex offender. Hendrickson confronted that employee, was briefly escorted out, then returned armed with a 9mm handgun and began shooting. A bullet passed through an aisle shelf and struck Hortsch in the head; he was pronounced dead at the scene. The employee was shot twice and left paralyzed below the waist. Responding officers arrested a man matching the suspect vehicle description in the parking lot without incident.
A grand jury later indicted Grant David Hendrickson on premeditated first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder, and in June 2017 he pleaded guilty to the murder of Donald Hortsch and the attempted murder of the employee. Does anyone have information about Hortsch’s last hours in the store or his connections in Burnsville?
