A family dispute in London, Kentucky, ended in a fatal shooting on December 2, 2022. Grant Smith, 59, was shot and killed at a residence on Old Crab Orchard Road after an argument with his younger brother, Bailey Smith, then 56. The disagreement was reported to involve stolen property and money and allegedly culminated with Bailey shooting Grant while he was in the kitchen.

Bailey Smith fled the scene and was located and arrested the next day at a business off US 25, north of London. The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Kentucky State Police and the London Police Department, recovered a suspected murder weapon, a handgun, near Pittsburg Cemetery north of London. Bailey Smith was charged with murder and fourth-degree assault and is being held at the Laurel County Detention Center on $500,000 bond; his trial is scheduled for March 10, 2025.
