Christopher Green was 42 when he was fatally shot on the morning of Thursday, October 6, 2022. Officers from the Owensboro Police Department responded just after 11:30 a.m. to the 2700 block of West 10th Street and found Green with a single gunshot wound; emergency crews provided treatment and rushed him to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital, where the injury proved fatal.
Green was a local business owner who had run Green Lawn Care for about a decade. A father of two, he enjoyed traveling, mowing, and had recently taken up beekeeping. Friends and family remember him as loyal and family-oriented and fond of watching his sons play sports.
Detectives quickly identified 33-year-old Keith Bryant of Sorgho, Kentucky, as a suspect; officers say the men were acquainted. Bryant was detained shortly after the shooting and charged with murder. Plea negotiations followed that led to a signed agreement to amend the charge to second-degree manslaughter and an eight-year sentence, but prosecutors later sought to revoke the deal. A Daviess Circuit Court judge enforced the signed agreement in October 2023; that enforcement was reversed by the Kentucky Court of Appeals on February 28, 2025, which found the agreement was not binding because a formal guilty plea had not been entered. The murder charge against Bryant was reinstated as of February 2025.
