On the morning of September 3, 2021, officers in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, responded to a report of a man in medical distress at a home on Woodland Drive and found 40-year-old Shedrick Tyrone Byrd with a single gunshot wound. Byrd, a Black man and father of two, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Initial statements to police from his girlfriend, 32-year-old Loni K. Drumm, said she had left to buy cigarettes and returned to find Byrd deceased. Detectives later identified inconsistencies in that account; Drumm ultimately admitted to striking Byrd with a handgun during a heated altercation and, as he tried to flee, shooting him. A neighbor who had been given the firearm instead turned it over to police.
Drumm was arrested and charged with murder in the context of domestic violence and tampering with physical evidence, and was booked into the Hardin County Detention Center with bond set at $500,000. Does anyone have information about Byrd’s last day or the relationship dynamics that could help investigators?
