Devon Devaughn Kendrick was 48 when he was shot on the night of July 28, 2021, on Sharpe Street in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Officers found him with multiple gunshot wounds; he was taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center and then airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. He died after emergency surgery.
An arrest followed quickly: 36-year-old Mory Burse was taken into custody the next day and charged with murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. A Christian County Grand Jury indicted Burse in September 2021 and he pleaded not guilty; a trial date was later set for March 2022. As the case moved forward, investigators developed an alternative suspect and witness statements conflicted, and the prosecution’s case against Burse lost strength. In April 2024 the charges against Burse were dismissed without prejudice. The Hopkinsville Police Department continues to investigate Kendrick’s death.
Does anyone have information about Kendrick, the events on Sharpe Street that night, or other leads that could help the ongoing investigation?
