On the afternoon of June 17, 2021, gunfire erupted in a parking lot outside an apartment complex on Winnie Street in Lexington, Kentucky. Police were called about 3:50 p.m. and found 38-year-old Jocko Dianti Green with life-threatening gunshot wounds. He was taken to the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital and died there at about 7:00 p.m. The Fayette County coroner later confirmed his identity and cause of death.
Lexington police initially had no suspect information and asked the public for help; investigators were uncertain whether any surveillance footage existed. On June 25, 2021, police identified 26-year-old Danzell Cruse as a suspect and issued a warrant. Cruse was arrested on July 8, 2021, in Frankfort with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service and the Frankfort Police Department and was charged with murder, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, and a parole violation.
The prosecution and defense later reached a plea agreement. Cruse pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter, his defense saying he acted in self-defense, and a judge sentenced him to eight years in prison in August 2022. Were there witnesses or surveillance from that parking lot who might still have information?
