Brandon John Probus, 31, was shot and killed on April 10, 2021, while seated in the driver’s seat of his vehicle outside a residence on Marshes Siding Road in McCreary County, Whitley City, Kentucky. Emergency services took him to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Kentucky State Police, with help from the McCreary County Sheriff’s Office, report that a verbal argument between Probus and 36-year-old Ashlee R. Bytheway preceded the shooting, and that Bytheway allegedly shot Probus once. Bytheway was arrested, charged with murder and lodged in the Knox County Detention Center; a grand jury later returned an indictment on the murder charge. Probus was a U.S. Navy veteran and a father who enjoyed motorcycles, hunting, fishing and mechanics.
