On the morning of Saturday, April 10, 2021, 31-year-old Delmour Moncrief was shot during a dispute in the parking lot of a Valero gas station on East Ninth Street in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, at the site formerly known as Scott’s Market. The shooting happened a little before 9 a.m.; Moncrief was taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center and later died of his injuries. His last known residence was Malden, Missouri.

Hopkinsville police identified two men who fled the scene in a red Toyota Solara. Investigators named 26-year-old David Rashawn King and 21-year-old Dalton Hall as suspects. Hall was arrested in Alabama days later and charged with murder, tampering with evidence, and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. King was arrested in Todd County in early July and was served with a Christian County grand jury indictment warrant charging him with murder, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, tampering with evidence, and hindering prosecution or apprehension of a fugitive.

Hall later pleaded guilty to murder with a recommended 20-year sentence; King later pleaded guilty to possession by a convicted felon and hindering apprehension, receiving a five-year sentence. Sentencing for Hall was postponed to complete a pre-sentencing investigation and to permit Moncrief’s family to attend.

If anyone has information about the dispute or the events at the Valero that morning, please share what is known.
