Desmon T. Cunningham, 32, was shot and killed in the early morning hours of a Saturday in April 2020 at an apartment complex on Glen Lily Road in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Officers from the Bowling Green Police Department found Cunningham with a gunshot wound; he was taken to The Medical Center at Bowling Green and pronounced dead.

Investigators identified a suspect, Jaydarin R. Starks, and an arrest warrant for murder was issued. Believing Starks had left the state, police asked the U.S. Marshals Service for help; the search extended across multiple states. Investigators later located Starks in Peoria, Illinois, where the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force and the Peoria Police Department arrested him without incident. He was lodged in the Peoria County Jail pending extradition to Kentucky to face the murder charge.
