On October 16, 2019, 24-year-old Marquis Dorell Harris and 25-year-old Sharmaine Shardea Carter were found dead in a second-floor apartment at Crystal Gardens Apartments on Alexandria Drive in Lexington, Kentucky. Police said both had gunshot wounds to the head and chest and the Fayette County coroner ruled their deaths homicides. Investigators recovered a pellet gun and a shotgun at the scene, but a retired Lexington detective testified the wounds were consistent with a small-caliber handgun that was never recovered.

Antonio Gaskin of Detroit was later arrested and charged with two counts of murder. At trial prosecutors showed a video of Gaskin denying he lived or stayed in Lexington and called a retired Louisiana State Police officer who said he had driven Harris from Detroit to the Lexington apartment the night before and, upon arrival, saw a man leave the unit, hug Harris and hand him the rest of the ride money; that witness later identified the man as Gaskin after being shown a single photo. The defense questioned that identification and noted other contested issues, including text messages the prosecution described as possible death threats.

Does anyone have information about Harris’s final movements in Lexington or about the small-caliber handgun investigators say was never recovered?
