William McAllister, a 26-year-old Black man, was found fatally shot in the front yard of a residence on the 800 block of East Second Street in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, in the early morning hours of Sunday, March 31, 2019. Police responded that morning and opened a homicide investigation; an autopsy was scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
Around 3:30–4:00 a.m. that same morning, a number of people were at the East Second Street home, and investigators later obtained and reviewed surveillance footage from the area. At nearly the same time, a 39-year-old man named Damion Lane was dropped off at Jennie Stuart Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his lower back; he was treated and released and was not cooperative with police. Lane was later charged with public intoxication after appearing at the crime scene. Detectives said they were working to determine whether the two shootings were connected.
On April 2, 2019, police released part of the surveillance video to the public and asked for help identifying people seen near the incident. As of April 2019, no arrests had been announced and the case remained unsolved. If anyone has information about what happened that morning, contact Detective Randell Greene at 270-890-1500 or Crime Stoppers at 270-887-TIPS (270-887-8477).
