In the early hours of January 24, 2019, 20-year-old Corvyan Keante Thomas Jr. was shot dead at a residence on Bethel Street in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Thomas suffered multiple gunshot wounds; a 19-year-old man who was with him was also shot in the leg but survived.
Investigators concluded the shooting arose from an attempted robbery aimed at stealing money and drugs from the two men. Police identified several suspects, including Shakkory Dashaun Willis, James Joseph Yates, Lane Dewilton Carter, and three juveniles. Authorities say Willis was the gunman who fired a 9mm handgun and struck Thomas three times.
In March 2019 a Christian County Grand Jury indicted Willis on murder, first-degree burglary, first-degree robbery, and second-degree unlawful transaction with a minor; Yates and Carter were indicted on first-degree complicity to burglary, first-degree complicity to robbery, and second-degree unlawful transaction with a minor. Willis was held on a $1 million cash bond.
