Jason Lemer Smith was killed on the evening of April 22, 2018, on the 300 block of Corral Street in Lexington, Kentucky. He was 30 years old and was found with a gunshot wound on the front porch of his home around 8:30 p.m.; he was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital and pronounced dead about 9:15 p.m.
Authorities focused on 27-year-old acquaintance Aramis Murray, who had been staying at Smith’s residence. Prosecutors say a dispute that day between Murray and the girlfriends of both men escalated after Murray allegedly made threats, and that Murray shot Smith and fled. Murray was arrested the next day and tried; he claimed self-defense, saying he believed Smith was reaching for a gun, but multiple witnesses testified they never saw Smith with a weapon.
A jury convicted Murray of murder and recommended a 25-year prison term. If anyone knew Jason or witnessed the events on Corral Street that night, please share what you remember.
