Christopher William Spencer was 19 when he was fatally shot in Lexington, Kentucky, on February 6, 2018. A Henry Clay High School graduate working as an electrical assistant, Christopher enjoyed hunting and fishing and was described as a promising young man.
The shooting occurred at a residence on Squires Woods Way after a man identified as Morgan Johnson brought a woman to the home, sexually assaulted her, and then shot Christopher. Police found Christopher on the porch with multiple gunshot wounds. After several hours of negotiation at the same residence, officers took Johnson into custody; he had been taken to a mental health hospital by police the week before after a separate welfare check for a suicidal man at the same location.
Johnson was charged with murder, unlawful imprisonment, and burglary; a rape charge was dismissed as part of a plea agreement. On September 8, 2022, he was sentenced to 35 years in prison. Christopher’s father spoke at sentencing about the family’s profound and lasting loss.
