Bernard Williams, 56, was fatally shot on the night of Thursday, November 2, 2017, at Patton Village Apartments on Knox Boulevard in Radcliff, Kentucky. An Army veteran and employee at Mark’s Feed Store in Elizabethtown, Williams was described as a peacemaker who often stepped in to de-escalate conflicts and help younger people in the community.
Police say a domestic dispute involving Williams’ neighbor, 33-year-old Millareisha Dixon, and the child’s father, 36-year-old Timothy Hargroves Jr., escalated when Hargroves arrived, knocked on the door and opened fire. Dixon was struck once; witnesses reported Williams stepped in front of her to shield her and was struck multiple times. Williams was airlifted to University Hospital in Louisville and later died; Dixon was expected to recover. Hargroves reportedly fled but was located hiding in a wooded area nearby and taken into custody and charged with murder and attempted murder. Reports note Hargroves had a lengthy prior criminal history.
Williams’ co-workers and neighbors remembered him as generous and kind-hearted, a gentle giant who helped others. If anyone knew Bernard or has information about the shooting, please share what can help the investigation.
