On the evening of October 13, 2017, Russell Franklin Dolen, 62, was shot and killed at his home in the Oil Valley area of Wayne County, Kentucky. The violence began with a domestic incident in a nearby residence where 57-year-old Paul E. Dolen shot and killed his wife, Sandra D. Dolen. Paul then went to Russell’s home and fatally shot his cousin; the motive for the attacks has not been determined.
Responding deputies from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office located Paul Dolen in a barn on the family property, armed with two handguns and a rifle. After Paul fired toward deputies, they returned fire and Paul was killed. The Kentucky State Police handled the investigation and all three bodies were sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for autopsy. No arrests were made because the shooter died at the scene.
Does anyone from the Monticello or Oil Valley area remember signs of trouble in the family before October 13, 2017?
