On June 18, 2017, at about 2 a.m. a 20-year-old man, Zachary Pouncy, was shot at a residence on West 26th Street in Covington, Kentucky. Officers found Pouncy with a gunshot wound and he was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Covington, where he was pronounced dead.
Police detained a 20-year-old man at the scene, Dhezon Gray, who was arrested and charged with second-degree manslaughter and lodged in the Kenton County Jail. Investigators reported that Gray, Pouncy and two others had been listening to music and smoking marijuana when Gray was handling a gun. Gray admitted loading a round into the chamber, waving the weapon and then placing it on a table with his finger on the trigger; the gun discharged and a single bullet struck Pouncy in the chest. Authorities said they found no evidence Gray intentionally shot Pouncy.
Gray later pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter in connection with Pouncy’s death. Does anyone have additional information about the gathering that night or about Zachary’s life in Covington?
