On the late afternoon of May 22, 2017, a dispute between two groups in a parking lot on South Broadway in Lexington, Kentucky, escalated to gunfire. Nineteen-year-old Justin Lee Jenkins was struck and taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, where he died at 4:23 p.m. A 20-year-old man was also wounded and transported to a hospital by a private vehicle.
Investigators determined the confrontation led to shots being fired and identified those involved. Dylan Andrew Capps, then 20, was seen leaving the scene and was stopped by police; detectives concluded Capps shot Jenkins and the other victim. A Fayette County grand jury later indicted Capps on murder, first-degree assault, and two counts of wanton endangerment. Nineteen-year-old Keegan Tyler Newton, a friend of the victims, was arrested and indicted on first-degree wanton endangerment; reports say Newton fired at Capps’ vehicle as it fled.
Does anyone have information about Jenkins, the altercation that afternoon, or what led to the confrontation?
