A domestic disturbance call on February 7, 2017, in Madison County ended with a state trooper shooting Kenneth ’Kenny’ Bruce Huntzinger, a 51-year-old white man. Kentucky State Police say Sergeant Toby Coyle, a 16-year veteran, arrived and told Huntzinger to exit his truck. Police report Huntzinger rammed another vehicle in the driveway, then accelerated his truck toward Sgt. Coyle; the officer fired and struck Huntzinger. Authorities say Huntzinger was not armed with a traditional weapon but was using his vehicle as a weapon. Sgt. Coyle was not injured.
Huntzinger was taken to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, where he died on February 16, 2017, more than a week after the shooting. Sgt. Coyle was placed on paid administrative leave and a special unit of the Kentucky State Police was assigned to investigate the incident.
Does anyone have additional information about the events that night or about Huntzinger’s life in Madison County?
