On the evening of December 4, 2016, a verbal dispute on Sycamore Street in Owensboro, Kentucky, escalated into an exchange of gunfire. Jerard A. Fountain, 36, was shot in the chest and later pronounced dead at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. A second man, 24-year-old Preston T. Williams, was shot in the abdomen and hospitalized in serious condition.

The Owensboro Police Department charged two men after the investigation. Preston T. Williams was charged with first-degree manslaughter, and Donte M. Washington was charged with murder. Investigators cited scene evidence, witness statements, and surveillance footage as part of the cases. Washington went to trial in March 2019 and was acquitted; Williams later faced a jury and was acquitted after his defense argued he acted in self-defense.

Both men were found not guilty, and no conviction has tied anyone legally to Fountain’s death, leaving family questions about who was ultimately responsible. If anyone has information about the shooting on Sycamore Street on December 4, 2016, please share what is known.
