A 17-year-old was killed in a basement shooting near Tates Creek High School in November 2016. David Fletcher Jones suffered a severe gunshot wound to the head on a Friday afternoon at a house on Honey Jay Court. Emergency responders transported him to the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:58 p.m., and the Fayette County Coroner later confirmed his identity and cause of death.
A woman who lived in the house said she was upstairs when she heard the shot and found Jones downstairs; four others who had been in the basement — her two sons, ages 13 and 23, and two friends — had fled before she reached them, leaving cell phones behind. Police did not immediately recover the weapon. The next day Lexington police announced the arrest of a juvenile charged with murder in the case; authorities released no further details about the suspect or the arrest. An obituary listed a visitation to be held the following Wednesday.
If anyone has information about what happened at the Honey Jay Court residence that afternoon, please come forward.
