On January 9, 2016, 18-year-old Caleb Hallett of Lexington, Kentucky, was shot multiple times after a planned robbery of a University Avenue house and later died at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital. Hallett, a Lafayette High School graduate who worked as a sales associate and produced music, had been in the house that night with a friend, Josh Baker, who was shot in the arm and survived. Five people set out intending to rob the house after believing it contained a large amount of marijuana. Two juveniles stayed in the getaway car while Marquess L. Smith, Marique Q.
Sturgis, and Kenyon Hipps, wearing masks, approached the residence. As Hallett and Baker got into Hallett’s car they were confronted; Smith reportedly fired into the vehicle and Sturgis admitted shooting at Baker. Only Baker’s cellphone was taken and later discarded from the getaway car. One suspect, 21-year-old Kenyon Hipps, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound ten days after the killing; the remaining suspects were arrested and charged.
Does anyone have information about Caleb’s movements that night or the people involved?
