Phillip Gene Jent, 51, was shot and killed on Tuesday, November 3, 2015, in the Cold Springs Hollow area of Morehead, Kentucky. Phillip, a local garage owner, was struck by a single bullet to the chest after an evening confrontation with his brother, Robert Jent, in what investigators described as the latest flare-up in a long-running property dispute between the siblings.
Robert told investigators he had meant only to shoot Phillip in the arm to subdue him; the shot instead struck Phillip in the chest and proved fatal. Family members contested that account. Phillip’s niece, Georgina Reed, noted that Phillip had driven to the brother’s home carrying a gun, a fact she said undermined claims of self-defense.
No immediate charges were filed after the initial investigation; the case was referred to a grand jury for review. Did anyone in the Morehead area witness the confrontation or have information about the dispute between the brothers?
