Markus Blake McDavid was 24 when he was found dead at a residence on Riverbend Way in Carter County on the evening of May 24, 2015. Kentucky State Police responded and opened an investigation that soon involved both a homicide and an apparent abduction after officers determined a woman had been forcibly taken from the scene.
Authorities identified 33-year-old Freddy Darren Irick as a suspect. Investigators located Irick and the woman on Taylor Hollow Road in the Aden Road area; the woman was found without serious injuries and Irick was arrested and held at the Carter County Detention Center on murder and kidnapping charges, along with outstanding warrants for first-degree assault and impersonating a peace officer. An autopsy was scheduled at the state medical examiner’s office in Frankfort to determine McDavid’s cause of death.
Reports later show Irick was convicted and sentenced, but questions remain about the circumstances that led to McDavid’s death and the evidence recovered at the scene. If anyone knew Markus or has information about what happened that night, please share what you know.
