On the night of June 21, 2014, Jonathan Thomas Price, 26, a Marine, was shot and killed in a parking lot at the Woodhill Shopping Center in Lexington, Kentucky. He and his wife, Megan, had been celebrating her 24th birthday and were returning to their car around 1:30 a.m. when two armed men approached and demanded Megan’s purse. Megan was shot in the leg; Jonathan intervened and was fatally shot in the back. He was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital and pronounced dead at 2:01 a.m.
Police initially described one suspect as a man with shoulder-length dreadlocks in a white T-shirt carrying a silver handgun. Investigators later identified two suspects, Dawan Mulazim and his nephew, Quincinio Canada. The first trial in June 2018 acquitted Canada and produced a mistrial for Mulazim; both were convicted on other robbery charges. In an October 2019 retrial, Mulazim was convicted on counts including intentional murder, first-degree robbery, complicity to first-degree robbery, and second-degree assault. Jonathan’s family remembers him as a loving husband and a Marine.
Did anyone in the Lexington area see or hear anything that night, or have additional details about the suspects or that parking lot around 1:30 a.m.?
