Michael Gossum Clapp was 36 when he was fatally shot in the early morning hours of a cold January day in 2007 at a residence in Wingo, Graves County, Kentucky. The shooting occurred at the home of Jacqueline Boyd. The man who fired was Michael Bushart, then Boyd’s boyfriend; Clapp had previously been in a relationship with Boyd and there was a history of animosity and a prior physical altercation between Clapp and Bushart.
Bushart was charged with reckless homicide but said he shot Clapp in self-defense, claiming Clapp was breaking into the residence and that he feared for Boyd’s and his own safety. A Graves County grand jury indicted Bushart, the circuit court judge initially dismissed the indictment, and the Commonwealth appealed; the appellate court reviewed the case. The conflicting accounts of that night and the legal back-and-forth left the final resolution to be decided through further proceedings.
Does anyone have information about Michael Clapp, his movements that night, or witnesses who were in Wingo in January 2007?
