Ricardo Rivera was 17 and a student at Kamiakin High School when he was shot on April 28, 2022, on the 2100 block of North Rhode Island Court in Kennewick, Washington. Witnesses reported hearing several gunshots and seeing multiple people flee the scene; Rivera was taken to a hospital around 5:15 p.m. but died of his injuries. Authorities described the killing as a homicide and said it was not a random act.

Investigators initially had difficulty identifying suspects, though several men were seen running from the mobile home park where the shooting occurred. Arrest warrants were issued in August 2022 for an 18-year-old, Jacob Young Jr., and a 15-year-old. By March 2023, four suspects had been charged in connection with the case. Court documents allege the shooting followed a planned robbery tied to an arranged purchase of marijuana oil, during which Rivera and the suspects struggled outside his car and cash was taken.
